 Post subject: temp gauge problem

please can someone help? my temp gauge has stopped working and am a bit worried driving any sort of distance how can i tell if the gauge is kaput or if i have the wrong sender (just remember something about different colours) cheers in advance

Depends on what model you have. As for gauges, I have a temp gauge available for you

Turn the ignition on remove wire from temp switch and earth it out if temp gauge works you know it's the switch

AARRGGGHHHHH it's come back to haunt me. Temp senders, temp housing units and now my twitch has come back just like Inspector Clouseaus boss Commussioner Charles Dreyfus. Just scrap the engine - buy a bike.... In the meantime like the main man Mark says just earth the sender unit and check the temp gauge - you'll soon see if it's working. Right where's my psychiatrist's telephone number now....twitch twitch

If needle does not move then it could be gauge not working or even a wiring fault but its most probably the switch at fault. Gauges rarely give a problem.

mark what colour sender should be in my engine its a 2 litre pinto its just ive heard there are different colours is this the case?

Lardy, if it's any help mine's a 2-litre Pinto and it's got the white top sender.

Trust me Lardy. I bought mine from the local Ford dealership in November 2002 and it's worked fine since then.

I think black is for the Cologne V6 or Cosworth YB.

put a new white top sender in and it still didnt work :( but then I was out on weds doing something rather special in the capri (nothing naughty)when the temp gauge started working RESULT!!!! :D
