Offered for sale is my Capri 280 Brooklands. It is a VERY, VERY original car with low ownership (Mother/Son + Demo).
- it was declared SORN on 1-11-2004 and has sat garaged since.
It passed the MOT on 26th May 2010 needing just 1 x Rear brake cylinder, 1 number plate bulb and a Brake pipe on the rear axel greasing up. The MOT tester (Citroen Main Dealer) commented on just how original the car is.
The car now has 1 Years MOT.
All the brake pipes are still original, as are the legs and struts. There is no filler in this car anywhere. What you see is what you get - Easy to make this car pristine.
Take a look at the pictures were taken on Sunday (23rd May 2010).
I wish to sell the car as an extremely simple restoration project - purely to fund some immediate work on our house.
She looks great and is still be a head turner but to be honest she does need some work to bring her up to the standard she deserves. She certainly looks to be in great condition and is extremely solid in all the right places.
She is SORNED and has been off the road since the last tax disc which expired in 2004. I can happily tax the car at the buyers expense (and with a deposit) as she is fully insured.
The Brooklands Green paintwork still carries a beautiful shine (Please take a look at the photos dated 23rd May 2010) and apart from having 2 x new front wings fitted by a body shop (still perfect) a while before being laid up, it is totally original.
The car is as straight as you will find and only has the odd (and I mean odd) few car park dings. These can EASILY be taken out paintlessly.
The car runs well and does not smoke at all. Mechanically it will obviously benefit from a service after sitting for so long but the car drives very well considering and I would happily drive anywhere with total condfidence.
Visually, the worst immediate thing about the car is the bumpers! Make no mistake they look awful as they didn't like being laid up. However these can be easily replaced with little more than just unbolting the old and replacing with the new. (I had thought about removing them for the pictures, but I have nothing to hide in the hope that you can see her potential).
However further to the bumpers she will require some body work to both the rear arches - luckily enough however the work is localized to the lips of the arches making the repairs straightforward. Also along with this, the lower rear valence has rusted just below the bumper irons. The valence is certainly repairable (in situ) by replacing the rusted metal and replacing it with new.
There is a minor bubble under the screen approx the size of a 20p coin (pictured) which has been there a long, long time without getting worse.
The rest of the windscreen scuttle is perfect, as are the A posts and door tops, with no rust.
The driver's door has a blister next to the protective trim strip at the front and there is also some rust starting inside the inner lower corner of the door skin (pictured - again repairable).
Finally there are a few superficial bubbles on the front valence (importantly this is perfectly solid) and a bubble on the passenger side rear quarter, again behind the protective strip (pictured).
The majority of the car is structurally rust free and it is very solid with the imperfections mainly being cosmetic. As I say, it went through the MOT today (25 May 2010) with practically no effort at all which speaks volumes towards the car.
Interior wise the driver's seat requires some trimming on the base and bolster. The only other thing is that the sunroof headlining has dropped but I have a good spare which will be supplied. There are a couple of cracks on the dash. She has the original Ford radio Cassette player (works fine!) and has never been messed around with. No speaker holes and totally original. The rest of the interior is good as it's always had over mats fitted.
Now I have made the car sound like a wreck please take another look at the photos with these points in mind.
Inside the boot and spare-wheen compartment is immaculate. She has the 5th 7-Spoke 280 Brooklands Alloy as a spare (5 x Capri 280 7-spokes in total). All of the Alloys fitted to the car are in good condition with Pirellis fitted which are hardly worn.
They have genuine locking nuts and are complete with the locking key.
Mechanically the car is sound with no overheating and no oil being burned. MOT emissions were absolutely fine.
I had always intended this car to be a concourse restoration project. I am only selling her to pay for structural repairs to our house which are understandably a priority - as a result (and due to the nature of the repairs needed to the house) the car is at my fathers (under the watchful eye of 3 very large guard dogs and CCTV!) due to our garage needing rebuilding and me having nowhere else to keep it.
I know I won't get another 280 which is so original which makes this even worse as I searched far and wide for this one - I don't know what else to say really!
Rare car, Great project. She will be beautiful when done and a very viable project.
